I've heard all of the excuses why people can't eat better. Well, when there is a will there is a way. Kids are no excuse-I have a daughter and she eats pretty similar to me. Because she has little choice-I guard what I keep in the house closely (hard to eat badly when there's nothing bad to eat). Now I'm not saying we don't drive through Sonic, because we do-I'm human and frankly, I need a break once in a while. And she needs to learn food rules and boundaries on her own, I only guide her (very gently, since she is stubborn, strong-willed, and will rebel against what I say if I try to force it upon her - Ah, the joy of parenting!). Time is not an excuse, because we all cook something and that takes time no matter what you cook. Most of the recipes here get you in and out of the kitchen in 30 minutes or less.
I've been blessed to work in the fitness and health spa industry for over 10 years. I love my job and I live my job. Job isn't the right word for it, it is a passion. I love helping people learn how to help themselves and support them along the way. I love my clients and it is an honor, truly, to help & serve others.
My most important role, though, is at home. Raising a girl with healthy, educated eating habits and a respect for her body is the highest calling for me. And that has made me learn more than anything along the way. So when my daughter has been over at a friend's house and comes home with a stomachache, I always ask, "What did you eat while you were over there?". And usually it isn't the best nutrition profile and I let her make the connection on her own, usually by saying, "Hmm, that was more sugar than you're used to, right?" or something along those lines. And when we go to the grocery, she looks at the label on the box she picks up and assesses the nutrition profile and knows what is and isn't the best choice (Mmm, that's a lot of sugar/salt/fat-it might make my stomach hurt).
These are lessons we can all learn, right? We've been so brainwashed by great marketing over the years, that we don't know what is up or down anymore. We try to eat healthy but our idea of healthy may be a little... misguided. Well, I'm here to help. And, yes, sometimes you'll see a recipe that has HFCS (high-fructose corn syrup) or something along those lines. Don't fall apart. It does find it's way into my diet occasionally. It's okay. I won't die from an occasional dose and neither will you. Moderation. Slow and steady. Little by little.

Your Fit Foodie, Lisa
